Our Story
We were both born and grew up in the ex-mining community of the Rhondda Valleys, South Wales.
Kelvin is bi-lingual, educated in Welsh and moved to London after qualifying an electronics engineer at the age of 23. By 30 he was the Operations Manager for a leading computer company. The last 13 years of his career in Management Consultancy as a Business Intelligence Practice Lead and Director of Consulting.
Meryl has been a nurse for 40 years, specialising in Paediatrics. The last 20 years of her career was spent as a Senior Manager across two hospitals in South Wales.
We married in 2016 after a 13-year relationship and sold both our houses to buy a property that we'd both fallen in love with in Gilwern, Brecon Beacons. We actually viewed the property with an estate agent on the same day that we picked up a Canal narrowboat for a commercial brochure photoshoot for one of the rental companies on the Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal which runs just behind us.
Those few days on the canal with a few friends reminded us how beautiful the area was and helped us to fall in love with Wales all over again.
We now invite you to join us in the glorious Brecon Beacons getaway with its great food, wonderful culture and a wealth of historical landmarks, surrounded by mountains, rivers and waterfalls.

Mill-Lodge Brecon Beacons
At Mill-Lodge, we're totally committed to helping you get the most out of your stay in the Brecon Beacons. As frequent travellers ourselves, we've often been let down by the lack of facilities at many B&Bs and hotel such as bike storage, local knowledge, no drying facilities for wet clothes and a distinct lack of power points for charging electronic equipment such as cameras and phone (especially cameras).
When we setup Mill-Lodge in January 2018 we were absolutely certain that we wanted to provide travellers and explorers with comfy beds, and awesome breakfast, loads of local knowledge and a super friendly welcome. Judging by the awards from Expedia, Booking, TripAdvisor, Google, Facebook and our own website, we believe that we've got the formula just right.
If you're looking for a romantic break, a weekend exploring the landscape, photography lessons or just a peaceful break to get away from the stress of modern life, Mill-Lodge is like a little bubble of peace & tranquillity away from the crowds.
